I was in conversation with a very dear friend, who wanted me to do a painting of a particular tree, on a particular road in a particular direction. Immediately I knew which tree she meant, before she had explained.
The very first time she drove up this road and saw this tree, she knew she wanted to live there, and live there she has, making this a view she sees everyday.
The first time I came down this road, I too, caught it in this light and was spellbound.
This painting is a record of the experience of that journey, rather than a copy of the distortion that a digital photograph can bring. Nearly all my paintings are now ’emotional responses to the experience of a place’.
