Paper Bark
if I were this birch
my back would form a knot
from leaning into rock
and I would write my place
my self a page of high sky white
my skin in flakes and curls
Tenacity
Despite
Despite
……….and only
Sycamore
I’ve heard your name scoffed
with a sideways discard of the lips
for being not native
not welcome here
as if your right …
The Long Walk
there are some who wonder why we’d do this
see only hardship, feel the weight of the bags
dislike the idea of sore feet, overlook or just don’t know
the way some things make me …
Everything is Connected
………………..skyline
……………….treeline
………………waterline
……………..bloodlines
……time circled inside this oak
future in the smooth trust of acorns
Found poem, leaning eastwards
Wind over water,
…………………land leaning eastwards
with a hundred birds,
unseasonable wind swimming on wind
Into the Wood
those days when I bent and twisted
reached my eleven year old body
into a tree, held on and balanced
I dared to look up
I dared to look down
This is a selection of poems arising from visits to the trees. Other poems have appeared on the trees and in the landscape around them – blogs and images of these site-specific interventions here.
The full collection will be on show in the exhibition and in the book, from June 2017.
